Steamboat Springs is quite literally the perfect fall destination.  We are biased, of course, as locals tend to be, but thinking about it as objectively as possible, we still stand by our proclamation.

The crisp mountain air… days that are still warm but nice and cool at night… transitioning from summer to fall activities – no part of it is bad. In fact, it’s quite the opposite!

Whether we’re in town to enjoy the fall foliage or do some hiking or crane watching, we all quickly realize there’s so much more to do here than simply gaze at the scenery (although that’s wonderful, too).

So, with that, we challenge our neighbors and friends to #breakfree this fall in Steamboat and join in on something fun! Something new! Here are a few of the exciting things happening around town this fall.

Fun Things To Do In Steamboat Springs This Fall 2021

1. Run Rabbit Run Ultra Marathons

The Run Rabbit Run Ultra Marathons are back and will take place September 17-18, 2021. As a proud event sponsor, WildPlum is thrilled to cheer on some of the world’s greatest endurance athletes who have trained countless hours to attempt these arduous races.

Here’s the breakdown of events:

The 9th Annual Run Rabbit Run 100 Mile Race will be held on Friday, September 17th, and the 14th Annual Run Rabbit Run 50 Mile Race will take place on Saturday, September 18th.

Both foot-races kick off at the base of the Steamboat ski area in Gondola Square, which is conveniently right next to WildPlum! Drop in so we can all cheer the participants on together over a glass of wine or draft beer.

2. Steamboat Food & Wine Festival

The Steamboat Food & Wine Festival will be held September 23-26, 2021 and is sure to be a fun experience to remember.

Featuring celebrated chefs, wine experts, and other gastronomic specialists from across the country, this multi-day gathering will enchant the mind and palate alike. Seize the experience by taking in a session on the Wines of Tuscany or partake in an incredible dinner prepared by James Beard-winning chefs – just be sure to check the schedule and get your tickets early, as these events usually sell out quickly!

3. Botanic Garden Walking Tour

Witness the gorgeous scenery at Yampa River Botanic Park and practically feel the stress melt away. This time of year highlights all 60 gardens in all their glory and serves as a quick and easy reminder to break free and be present…even if just for a moment.

For a more enriching experience, sign up for a free guided walking tour led by Board members and volunteers. It’s a great way to learn about the history of the Botanic Park and the plants that thrive in the Yampa Valley – all while enjoying a beautiful day outdoors!

4. Hike a Picturesque Trail

It’s no secret that Colorado is full of beautiful trails; Steamboat just happens to be “home” to so many of them! So, let’s hit the trails with a pair of comfy shoes, a light snack, and drinks to stay hydrated.

One trail that’s particularly beautiful this time of year is the Emerald Mountain Quarry Trail. It’s just shy of four miles long and the route is peppered with generous views of Mt. Werner and the scenic downtown area.

Break Free From the Norm

Whatever anyone decides to do this fall, let’s challenge ourselves to break free from the norm. We will feel refreshed and lighter, and have some fun along the way!

With adventure just outside our door, there’s never a dull moment in Steamboat Springs. Afterwards, let’s meet up at WildPlum and share our adventures over a drink at the bar – getting to share the memories is half the fun!
