In our last blog we showcased many of our wonderful entrepreneurial neighbors and the amazing products that originate from our great state of Colorado. In this blog we’d like to share the history of WildPlum and how this local market came to live on Steamboat mountain.

Epicurean Market Idea is Born

In 2011, Jack and Mary McClurg, longtime lovers of Steamboat, noticed there was an opportunity to provide epicurean offerings in the Steamboat community. Items like charcuterie, fine cheeses, deli meats, good wines and unique gift items, were hard to find on the mountain. They had a vision to bring a community centered market to Steamboat, where neighbors could gather, shop, and dine.

The Highmark building, where the current WildPlum is located, continues to be the perfect location to serve the condo communities, mountain homes, visitors and locals on the mountain. Jack and Mary knew they could bring something unique to the mountain, supporting the community and creating jobs, so they jumped in and said, “Let’s do this!”

Steamboat Mountain Dining

There was no pizzeria or liquor store on the mountain in 2011. Just like peanut butter needs jelly, every ski area needs a place with pizza and beer for aprés ski. Thus, WildPie pizza was born and a large selection of beer, wine, and liquor morphed into one of the largest Spirits stores in the Valley.

Goodness Elevated™

The WildPlum vision continues to grow. Under the direction of Kori McClurg and her husband Barry, the store is on a mission to bring Goodness Elevated™ to Steamboat. WildPlum has been transformed into a community gathering place for locals and visitors to enjoy all year.  WildPlum offers a new casual culinary adventure to those looking for Steamboat Mountain dining options. This year the store underwent a major remodel, adding many new features.

  • New dine-in seating
  • A new bar
  • Beer and wine on tap
  • A patio fireplace
  • Grocery and meal delivery
  • New menu items for breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Catering for small events
  • Patio area rental for parties and wedding events

WildPlum welcomes our neighbors to explore the new space, taste new menu items, use the grocery delivery service and celebrate mountain life with us!

We want to hear what you think of the new WildPlum. A dedicated feedback page has been created where you can leave us comments and suggestions. This is your store, your town, your neighborhood, and we are grateful to be part of it all.
